Be the hit of any party when you bring along this sweet, creamy Cool Whip Fruit Dip!

What do you do when you realize you forgot to prepare something for the picnic, potluck, or other get-together happening soon? When you need something that takes very little time and preparation—and everyone will love—I have the perfect recommendation: Cool Whip fruit dip! This sweet, creamy, luscious dip takes only 10 minutes to prepare and requires only five ingredients (if you count the salt).

Okay, I can hear you yelling at me that I forgot about the fruit. No, I just said the dip requires only a few ingredients. Obviously, we still need some fruit, but you can go as minimalist or as fancy as you like. For example, picking up some grapes, strawberries, and bananas will make a pretty, colorful platter of fruit. However, you can get fancy by creating a visual masterpiece with additional items like:

  • Blueberries
  • Blackberries
  • Apple Slices
  • Pineapple
  • Pears
  • Cantaloupe
  • Honeydew
  • Watermelon
  • Star Fruit
  • Mango
  • Marshmallows
  • Vanilla Wafer Cookies
  • Graham Crackers
  • Pound Cake

A pretty platter or tiered display is ideal for the fruit. Add a bowl of the dip on the side of the display, or in the center of the platter, and enjoy.

Have you ever noticed which foods disappear the quickest at parties? I have, and fruit dip with assorted fresh fruit is always one of them. But who says you have to wait for a special occasion to make this? It makes the perfect afternoon snack or light dessert. If you prefer less sugar, you can cut back on the amount or omit it entirely. I do, and I still find the dip plenty sweet on its own.

Ingredients for Cool Whip Fruit Dip: cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, Cool Whip, salt, bananas, blueberries, and raspberries.

Cool Whip fruit dip variations

There are multiple ways you can make Cool Whip fruit dip besides the recipe below. For a simpler—and equally delicious version—combine the Cool Whip with one 3.4-ounce package of instant pudding mix. Use the mix dry (straight from the package) when combining with the Cool Whip. The great thing about making it like that is you can choose any pudding flavor you like. I’m a huge fan of butterscotch, and that dip is great with apples and bananas. You can even use sugar-free versions of the Cool Whip and pudding, if desired.

Another version of this dip combines four ounces of softened cream cheese, eight ounces of thawed Cool Whip, and seven ounces of Marshmallow Fluff. I’ve always seen this dip with either the fluff or the whipped topping, never both together, so it is a double-sweet treat. One of the easiest ways to switch up the flavor of this dip is by using a fruit-flavored cream cheese. Strawberry fruit dip is always a hit—but my favorite is blueberry!

How do I store leftovers?

Store leftover Cool Whip fruit dip in an airtight container or in the serving bowl, tightly covered with plastic wrap, for up to 5 days. Stir before each serving. You can also freeze this dip in a freezer-safe container for up to 2 months. Defrost it in the refrigerator and stir well before serving. The dip may become a bit grainy upon thawing.
