Need a yummy, finger-food appetizer that’s easy to make and quick to eat? Check out this kids’ party classic.

It doesn’t matter what holiday it is—Christmas, Thanksgiving, or Halloween. My younger cousins will gobble up pigs in a blanket quicker than I can pull them out of the oven. So, if you have a big shindig coming up, I suggest making a double batch of these bad boys, ’cause they’re going to go fast! And it’s no wonder, with such an easy flavor profile for kids and adults alike. Each cozy little treat is tender and savory with a hint of smoky spice, so that you can’t help but grab one more.

This is the perfect little snack to tide everyone over before dinner. Dish these out with some ketchup and mustard, and you’re good to go. For my loved ones, it’s not a real party until the pigs in a blanket come out.

Why brush with egg?

Until recently, I didn’t bother brushing my pigs in a blanket with egg because I didn’t think it was necessary. They were promptly devoured no matter what! But the egg does add a nice level of richness and golden-brown crisp to the outside that nobody’s going to complain about. If you don’t have eggs for this recipe, it’s not the end of the world. You can also try brushing the treats with some milk or melted butter.

How do I store leftovers?

When your pigs in a blanket reach room temperature, transfer them to an airtight container and refrigerate them for up to 4 days. For longer storage, put them in a freezer-safe bag and freeze for up to 3 months. When you’re ready to reheat them, pop them in the oven at 350°F for 5-10 minutes, until they’re completely warm.

Looking for keto options? Check out Keto Pigs In A Blanket crafted with gluten-free dough and all-beef hot dogs. This is definitely what I’ll be trying next time I have a party. But don’t stop there with your festive finger foods! Try Keto Jalapeño Poppers and Keto Crock-Pot Meatballs With Tangy Dipping Sauce. But if you want your appetizers to stand out among the rest, serve up some Delicious Fried Calamari or Keto Stuffed Mushrooms. Heck, with all these yummy recipes to choose from, you could make a whole buffet-style meal out of appetizers.

Ingredients

  • 2 tubes refrigerated crescent roll dough (8 ounces each)
  • 1 package little smokies sausages (14 ounces)
  • 1 large egg beaten
  • Preferred sauce for dipping such as mustard or ketchup

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to keep the treats from sticking.
  • Unroll the crescent roll dough on a lightly floured surface. Separate the triangles along the perforations. Cut each triangle into 3 smaller triangles.
  • Place one mini sausage at the wide end of each small triangle. Roll the dough over the sausage, wrapping it completely as you move toward the pointed end.
  • Brush the outside of each wrapped sausage lightly with the beaten egg. This will give a nice golden finish.
  • Arrange the wrapped sausages on the baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 15 minutes, or until they are puffed and golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce such as mustard or ketchup.
