Craft a smooth, zesty dip that’s like guacamole but creamier—perfect for chips, crackers, and veggie sticks.

When it comes to avocado, people either love it or hate it. I’m one of those people who has loved the unusual, savory fruit ever since I first tried it. From the get-go, my taste buds have been blown away. Ripe avocado is naturally creamy, with a buttery flavor that makes it great for whipping into guacamole or dips like this one.

With a perfect combination of tangy, savory, and zesty, avocado dip is the smooth and spreadable version of a chunky guacamole. Usually, I enjoy it with tortilla chips for dipping and as a topping on tacos or sandwiches. But feel free to experiment with it by mixing it into a green salad or drizzling it over crispy, cheesy nachos.

During past family gatherings, avocado dip has been a huge hit, which is surprising because many of my loved ones don’t usually favor avocado. Those who claim they don’t like it often try this dip and end up questioning their preferences. That’s how yummy it is! While I can’t guarantee that will happen with everyone, it’s great to keep this recipe up my sleeve as a creamy crowd-pleaser at parties.

Ingredients for Avocado Dip Recipe: ripe avocados, plain Greek yogurt, finely chopped red onion, lime juice, minced garlic, and salt.

Guacamole vs. avocado dip—what’s the difference?

Comparing this recipe to classic guacamole is pretty easy. The main difference is that this recipe includes Greek yogurt, which thickens the dip while making it velvety smooth and a little tangy. Many guacamole recipes also include diced tomato, which this recipe does not have. Feel free to craft guacamole and avocado dip side by side so you can compare them. It’s always fun to do a little taste-testing, whether there’s a party to throw or not.

How do I store leftovers?

Transfer your avocado dip to an airtight container and refrigerate for 3-4 days. I suggest pressing plastic wrap onto the top of the dip before covering it with the container top. Since it’s avocado, there will be some natural discoloration, but this step should keep it from getting overly brown. Enjoy your leftovers as soon as possible—the fresher, the better! Don’t freeze avocado dip, or else it could become grainy and lose its smooth texture.

Similar recipes to try

There are many ways to enjoy the awesome avocado in all its splendor. For instance, savor each buttery slice as a topping in Quinoa Bowls. These are especially great for each person to make their own according to preference. On the fancier side of things, you can try Crab-Stuffed Avocado Salad, which tastes as rich as it looks. However, if you’re seeking a creamy dip that doesn’t include avocado, then make some herb-infused Greek Yogurt Dip. This also works great as a spread for wraps and sandwiches or as a topping for salad.
