Crispy, golden-brown onion rings wouldn’t be complete without a creamy, tangy dipping sauce!

At nearly every American restaurant or diner, you’ll find onion rings as a side on the menu. Sometimes you’ll even find them with a signature sauce for dipping. The most classic kind of sauce for onion rings is a velvety smooth blend of mayo, ketchup, and savory seasonings. In this recipe, all you do to craft a luscious onion ring sauce is combine the ingredients and then chill them in the fridge. So, if you have a party to prepare for, this can be one of the easiest dips to make on the fly.

My favorite aspect of this recipe is that, although it’s most commonly served with onion rings, you can work it into all kinds of dishes. For instance, I like to use it as a spread on paninis or wraps to add a burst of creamy and tangy flavor. You can also dip French fries or veggie sticks into it, so keep this recipe handy for your next finger food platter. Although it already has a bite to it, you can kick it up a notch by adding half a teaspoon of Cajun seasoning or chili powder—or even blending in a couple drops of your favorite hot sauce. Let this onion ring sauce be an easy way to get your creative juices flowing in the kitchen.

What other sauces go well with onion rings?

If you’re anything like me and my loved ones, then you enjoy a nice spread of sauces to choose from. That way, each onion ring has a new and fun flavor to savor. So, I like to serve garlic aioli, ranch dressing, and BBQ sauce. The first two are rich and creamy, while the third is tangy and a little spicy. All of that, alongside this classic onion ring sauce, gives your guests the freedom to choose and pack their plate with a ton of yummy flavors. Talk about the perfect party appetizer!

How do I store leftovers?

Cover leftover onion ring sauce with plastic wrap or transfer it to an airtight container. Refrigerate it for up to 5 days. I enjoy spreading it on sandwiches or meatloaf, so feel free to experiment with your leftover sauce to find some new favorites.

Similar recipes to try

If you’d like a low-carb option to dip your onion rings in, then try Keto BBQ Sauce, which is sugar-free but still deliciously sweet and smoky. For something that’s creamier and more indulgent, try Copycat Keto Chick-fil-A Sauce made with mayo and mustard. On the other hand, if you’re craving a little Tex-Mex flair for your onion rings, then try this Chicken Dipping Sauce. Sure, it’s made for chicken, but it’s also dynamic enough to enjoy with all kinds of fried treats.
