Craft this easy, sweet, and savory side to complement burgers, steak, and more!

For as long as I can remember, I have been a fangirl for sweet potatoes. They’re colorful, yummy, and highly nutritious. My mom thinks my obsession comes from eating a lot of sweet potato baby food when I was an infant, and I don’t remember a time when I wasn’t in love with them. One of the easiest ways of serving sweet potatoes, hands down, is to slice them up into cute little circles and bake them in the oven for about 30 minutes.

Sweet potato slices come out of the oven bursting with sweet earthiness and a hint of salt, cooked to tender perfection with a slightly crisp outside. What’s not to love? Additionally, these golden brown babies can be made sweeter or more savory, depending on your preference, or a tasty harmony of the two. I know my little self would have loved to nosh on these with almost any meal, and to this day, it is one of my favorite sides to make for all kinds of occasions.

Do garlic and cinnamon go well together?

While, of course, it depends on your personal preference, I am an advocate for this seasoning combo because sometimes I crave both savory and sweet in harmony. When I get that craving, I dish out some sweet potato slices with both cinnamon and garlic powder, and I’m always satisfied. That being said, if you prefer more sweetness, then stick to the cinnamon but omit the garlic. Want it to be savory? Leave out the cinnamon but keep the garlic. Heck, sometimes I even like to use a whole teaspoon of garlic powder because I like it that much. Make it a few times with different seasonings so you can see which you like best.

How do I store leftovers?

Once your sweet potato slices have cooled to room temperature, transfer them to an airtight container. Refrigerate them for 4-5 days, or freeze them for up to 2 months before thawing in the fridge overnight. Reheat in the oven at 350°F for 10-15 minutes, until they reach your ideal level of crispiness.

Similar recipes to try

Although this is one of my favorite sides, there are tons more out there for you to try. If you like that sweet and savory blend and want to taste more of it, then check out Healthy Broccoli Slaw, Shaved Brussels Sprouts Salad, or Maple Spice Roasted Acorn Squash. And if you’re a big fan of cinnamon, then try Cinnamon Bread or Keto Carrot Muffins, which can be excellent for breakfast, sides, snacks, or desserts.
