Who else loves (used to love) mozzarella cheese sticks? They were always a favorite appetizer or snack of our family. Obviously, we don’t eat them anymore because they’re breaded and fried in unhealthy oils (usually canola/vegetable oil).
Heat a skillet over med-high heat. Pour enough oil to have a thin layer in the pan. We don’t need to completely submerge the cheese in the oil but we need enough for the edges to be submerged.
Add 1 tablespoon of butter when you start hearing the oil sizzle. The oil creates the crunch and the butter gives flavor!
I’ve sliced 4 ounces of cheese (half of the block) into about 1″ sticks. Just eyeball this. No need to be precise! Put them into the oil and let each side fry for about 60-90 seconds. This process goes FAST! And the oil will pop and getcha. This is why I suggested an apron!
