Vegetable oil for fryingenough to fill a deep pan about 2 inches deep
Preferred dipping sauceoptional
Instructions
In one shallow bowl, mix the flour with salt, pepper, and cayenne. In a second bowl, beat the eggs. Place the panko breadcrumbs in a third bowl.
Dip each cheese cube first in the flour mixture, then in the egg, and finally in the panko. Gently press to help the breadcrumbs stick. For a thicker coating, you can double-bread them.
Place the breaded cheese cubes on a tray lined with parchment paper and freeze them for 20-30 minutes. This step ensures the coating stays intact during frying.
Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan to about 375°F. Fry the chilled cheese cubes in small batches for roughly 3 minutes until the coating is golden and crisp.
Remove the cheese with a slotted spoon and let the pieces drain on paper towels. Serve warm, accompanied by dipping sauce if desired.
